Fine Art Photography
Christoph Brandl works as a fine art photographer at the intersection of photography, painting, and graphic design. Dedicated to analog processes, he experiments with expired films and medium-format cameras, working primarily on location to explore the tension between minimalism and emotion, abstraction and figuration.
His practice demonstrates a distinctive fusion of documentary observation and mythological narrative. Through analog techniques and unconventional materials, Brandl creates work that bridges natural phenomena with cultural memory. His approach has earned significant recognition, including Kenya's Photographer of the Year 2015 (the first German recipient) and Best Individual Photographer at Wiesbadener Fototage 2019.
Brandl's interdisciplinary background in law, visual arts, journalism, and cultural curation informs an artistic practice that intensified in 2008. His photographs are held in prestigious collections including the Auswärtige Amt and Deutsche Bahn, and have been exhibited internationally across Germany, Switzerland, Kenya, Mexico, and the United States.
"Brandl's series reveal a cohesive artistic vision that consistently explores themes of natural power, cultural memory, and temporal transition through innovative photographic techniques and material experimentation."
