Dieses Projekt basiert auf den Erfahrungen Karl Roßmanns, Hauptfigur in dem unvollendeten Roman Amerika von Franz Kafka. Ich entwickelte 10 fotografische Arbeiten aus Themen, die ich im Roman identifiziert hatte. Der Titel jeder Arbeit spiegelt eines dieser Themen wider.
Ich bezog mich dann auf das Amerika, das Roßmann mit meinen Erfahrungen als Einwanderer in die Staaten gefunden hatte, und kontextualisierte die Ergebnisse mit den USA, wie ich sie heute wahrnehme. Das einstige demokratischen Vorzeigeland lieferte in den letzten 4 Jahren in Blaupause dafür, wie die Demokratie abzuschaffen wäre…
Als Grundlage für die Arbeiten verwendete ich Fotografien, die ich im Laufe der Jahre an verschiedenen Orten aufnahm und mit ikonischen kunsthistorischen Werken, historischen Karten, Zitaten und Elementen der Popkultur collagierte.

“Fake Memories: The Lunatics are running the Asylum” is based on Karl Roßmann’s experience in the unfinished novel Amerika by Franz Kafka. I developed 10 photographic works from topics I identified in the novel. The title of each work reflects one of those topics.
I then referenced the America that Roßmann found with my experiences as an immigrant to the States and contextualized the findings with the USA as I perceive it today. The former democratic model country provided in the last 4 years a blueprint for how democracy should be abolished …
As the basis for the works I used photographs, which I took over the years in different places and collaged them with iconic works of art history, historical maps, quotes and elements of pop culture.
